Giving Hand

Venerate Orphanage

Who are we?

Giving Hand is a non-profit organization created in 2021 by Mathis Piquet helped by Lou Hawkins and Jules Granier. We want to help orphans in Tanzania.
At the moment we are working for one orphanage in particular: Venerate Orphanage.
It is located on the outskirts of the city of Arusha. It gathers about thirty children from 3 to 12 years old, as well as 2 coordinators (Adam and Emmanuel) and 2 "mama" who take care of them daily as well as their education (until they are 5 years old).
Today we have welcomed 30 additional children thanks to the various projects carried out by the association.
All 50 children have access to private schools, which was not the case before.
We are currently opening new programs with hospitals. If you are interested in these programs, please contact us directly.

Our actions

Our first mission, now completed, was to build a new dormitory for the children.
From now on, the boys and girls are divided in two different rooms of 42m2. The building is on two floors, has cupboards for the children's clothes, electricity and allows for good water irrigation in rainy weather.
Our new missions:First of all, the construction of a new sanitary space. It is our goal to create a sanitary space so that they will not have to wait as long to wash themselves. The waterproofing of the floors is also an issue for the Venerate orphanage. The monsoon in Tanzania generates heavy rainfall, and the irrigation systems in the old buildings and the ground in the courtyard do not allow water to drain away. The courtyard, in which the children play, is often flooded and is therefore impassable. We therefore want to concrete the courtyard to ensure that the children have a permanent play area. Finally, we want to realize the Construction of a vegetable garden. This one will allow a semi-autonomous management of the food.
Installation of solar panels. In order to have hot water and access to electricity throughout the year.

And of course the Private schooling for children over 5 years old. Tanzania is a country that lives, in large part, from tourism, so many Tanzanians work in this field. However, to do so, it is necessary to speak English, a language not taught in public schools. In addition, exams are not free for all students in public schools, which leads to a high rate of abstention and few graduates. The private school allows children to learn English, the entry in these schools is paying, but allows students to pass the exams without having to pay again. The children also face other problems such as: the distance between the orphanage and the school, no lunch on site, no school materials and the transition between classes in Swahili and English.A part of the donations we receive allows us to pay the entrance of these children in private schools. In the next 10 years, we hope to have contributed enough to the development of the orphanage to make it self-sufficient.

Our missions

We participate humanly and economically in the development of the orphanage1. Student volunteering in the orphanage:
Our volunteers help the mamas and the coordinators with daily tasks (food preparation, entertainment, etc.) / education.
They also make themselves available for any material improvements on site (construction, gardening, etc.).
2. The financial contribution:
Thanks to your donations, we invest in construction to improve the orphanage.
This also allows us to buy everyday material (toys, school material, bedding, clothes, etc.).

3. Our events :
We participated in the day "plants and flowers in festival" organized by the association "La Péregrina". The latter allows several different associations to contribute to the smooth running of the event; transportation of plants for customers, management of parking, help to speakers etc.. In return, La Peregrina allows us to have a stand to make our association known and offers us a financial contribution to invest in our actions.

Volunteering

We propose to any person of age, conscientious and invested as well as wishing to contribute to the development of the orphanage, to participate in a voluntary stay.During this stay, you will be able to help the mamas and the coordinators with the daily tasks:
• Preparation of meals
• Help with the school for the little ones
• Organizing fun activities for the children
• Participate in household chores
• As well as simply spending a pleasant moment with the children.

But also, possibly, to participate in material improvements, such as constructions, for the development of the orphanage, if such projects are in progress. If you are interested in our volunteer mission, you will be able to stay with our partner, the Karibu Foundation. The latter has premises that welcome volunteers from several associations in the region, and will therefore allow you to meet other volunteers who carry out missions of all kinds.
